Nitrox Course
NITROX COURSE up to 40% O2
A Nitrox course, also known as Enriched Air Nitrox (EANx) course, is a scuba diving certification program that teaches divers how to use enriched air mixtures containing a higher percentage of oxygen than standard air. The most common Nitrox mixes are Nitrox 32 (32% oxygen) and Nitrox 36 (36% oxygen). The course is designed to enhance safety by allowing divers to extend their no-decompression limits and reduce the risk of decompression sickness. Here’s an overview of what you can expect in a Nitrox course:
Prerequisites:
- Open Water Diver Certification: Generally, participants need to be certified as Open Water Divers or have an equivalent certification.
- Minimum Age: Typically, participants must be at least 15 years old.
Theory and Classroom Sessions:
- Gas Laws and Physiology: Understanding how gases behave underwater and the physiological effects of different gas mixtures.
- Benefits and Risks: Learning the advantages and potential risks associated with using Nitrox.
- Dive Tables and Planning: Understanding how to use dive tables specific to Nitrox and planning dives with enriched air mixtures.
- Oxygen Exposure Limits: Learning about oxygen exposure limits to avoid oxygen toxicity.
Practical Application:
- Analyzing Nitrox Mixes: Hands-on training in analyzing the oxygen content of Nitrox cylinders using an oxygen analyzer.
- Equipment Considerations: Understanding equipment considerations for Nitrox diving, such as using oxygen-clean gear.
- Dive Planning: Practicing dive planning with Nitrox mixes, adjusting no-decompression limits, and considering safety factors.
Written Exam:
- Completion of a written exam to assess the participant’s understanding of the course material.
Certification:
- Successful completion of the course, including the written exam, practical exercises, and any required dives, results in a Nitrox certification.
Specialty Certification:
- Nitrox certification is often considered a specialty certification and may count toward achieving higher levels of certification, such as Master Diver or Divemaster.
Certification Dives (Optional & not included):
Some training agencies may include optional or required certification dives where participants apply the knowledge and skills learned in the classroom in real diving situations, this is optional and not included in the price, however Calavera Divers provide complimentary Nitrox 32 to all of our divers that complete the certification with us for your cenote dives
