FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Cenote diving differs from ocean diving, because the environment demands more precise skills and good buoyancy. While we are still in the natural light zone but in a overhead enviroment, not always is possible to immediately ascent at the surface.

For this reason, to book a guided cenote tour, we require you to be minimum an Open Water Diver with 20 dives and your last dive was no more than six months ago. If these requisite are missing we can provide a refresher or buoyancy class to ensure your safety and comfort.

In some cenotes the conditions such as depth, overhead and visibility will require to be at least an Advanced Open Water Diver with a minimum of 25 dives.

Cenote: 24-26C / 74-76F year round

A long wetsuits with a minimum of 5 mm for cavern dives and 7 mm for courses in Cenotes is recommended.

Having your own equipment is always a good idea as you are comfortable and  familiar with it, however it is possible to rent it at extra cost. We reccomend to Students interested in Side mount courses to have their own equipment since every setting and  fine tune in the harness is personal and will likely serve you in your future dives.

We are using 11L / 80 cubic feet Aluminium tanks. Nitrox is available.

Many cenotes are located on private property,  The land owner is responsible for maintaining the cenote, reducing risks and make sure that everything is under control. To do so many cenotes require permission.

The permission is dependent on the activity at the cenote and if you planning to scuba dive it requires a professional cave guide.

With Calavera Divers there will be a registered cave & cavern guide available to obtain this permission for you.

Before the activity each Diver is required to present the Medical Statement Form and the Liability Release form properly filled and signed, in some cases a Medical Certificate from physician is required. Enrolling on courses requires the Continuous Education Form to be filled out. These documents can be downloaded from the download section in the menus of this website
